What is included · ecommerce hosting and maintenance

Eight things your ecommerce
maintenance plan ships with.

Most ecommerce maintenance services charge hourly and ignore hosting, so when your checkout breaks at 8pm on Black Friday you are paying three vendors who all point at each other. We bundle hosting plus ecommerce maintenance services into one retainer with one team. Here is exactly what is included every month.

01 · HOSTING

Managed Shopify Plus or headless hosting

Fully managed hosting on Shopify Plus infrastructure, Magento Cloud, or Vercel for headless Hydrogen / Next.js builds. CDN, SSL, HTTP/3, and a 99.99 percent uptime target. You never log into the host again.

02 · HOSTING

BFCM-ready scale plan

Pre-BFCM load testing, cache warming, and a peak readiness audit every September. The platforms that buckle on Black Friday do not buckle on us. Real numbers, real load testing, real backup checkout paths.

03 · HOSTING

Daily backups and staging

Daily off-site encrypted backups with 30 days of restore points. Production-mirrored staging for every change so nothing risky ships straight to live during a launch week.

04 · MAINTENANCE

Theme, app, and security updates

Theme and app updates tested in staging before production. Vulnerability scans, malware monitoring, PCI compliance maintenance, and SSL renewals. SOC 2 and GDPR compliance built in.

05 · MAINTENANCE

App stack audits

Quarterly audit of every installed Shopify or BigCommerce app. We typically retire 20 to 40 percent that are slowing your site, duplicating features, or charging you for things the core platform now ships. Your monthly app bill usually drops.

06 · MAINTENANCE

Content updates and seasonal launches

Product photo swaps, copy updates, holiday landing pages, lifecycle email drafts, and collection refreshes inside the retainer. No hourly creep, no waiting two weeks for a hero image change.

07 · OPTIMIZATION

Monthly CRO sprint on PDP and checkout

A/B tests on hero, PDP, cart drawer, and checkout every month. Run by senior strategists with statistical rigor. Compounds into double-digit conversion-rate lift over a year.

08 · REPORTING

Monthly hosting and maintenance report

A real written report (not a screenshot) covering uptime, performance, security, what changed on the site, what tests ran, what improved, and what we recommend next month. Plus a quarterly scope rebid.

How the program runs

Four stages between
onboarding and compounding lift.

Same architecture across every ecommerce website maintenance services engagement, recalibrated for your stack. Every stage ships a written artifact. Step zero is a 30 minute call with a senior site strategist (not a salesperson) who runs a live performance, security, and uptime audit, and walks you off the call with a written risk list plus an itemized ecommerce maintenance plan.

Most ecommerce maintenance services
do not operate this way.

Worth comparing before you sign with any ecommerce website maintenance vendor, us included. Pay attention to who owns hosting, who owns CRO, and what happens when checkout breaks during a BFCM promo.

Common questions

Ecommerce hosting and
maintenance questions we get.

Eight of the most common questions DTC founders ask before signing for ecommerce maintenance packages with hosting bundled in. If yours is not here, the strategy call is the right place to ask it.

What does an ecommerce maintenance plan with hosting cost?
For most DTC brands, the bundled retainer runs $2,500 to $6,000 per month. That covers managed hosting on enterprise infrastructure, daily backups, security and updates, app stack management, BFCM readiness, and a monthly CRO sprint. Hosting is included, not a separate line item.
What hosting platforms do you run ecommerce sites on?
Shopify Plus dedicated infrastructure (most common), Magento Cloud for Magento 2 brands, and Vercel for headless Hydrogen, Next.js, or Nuxt builds. We migrate you in during onboarding at no extra fee. The platform is matched to your stack, not the other way around.
What is included in ecommerce maintenance services vs new feature work?
Inside the retainer: theme and app updates, security patches, product photo and copy swaps, seasonal landing pages, lifecycle email template updates, monthly CRO experiments, and app stack audits. Outside the retainer: new platform features, redesigns, migrations, or net-new app builds. Those are scoped and quoted separately.
How do you handle BFCM and peak season?
Pre-BFCM load testing in September, cache warming, and a peak readiness audit. Real load tests against your store, real backup checkout paths, and 24/7 emergency coverage from November 1 to December 31. We have never lost a client to a Black Friday outage and we are not about to start.
What is your uptime SLA?
99.99 percent uptime target across managed hosting tiers. That equates to under 53 minutes of downtime per year. We monitor with synthetic checks every 60 seconds plus app health monitoring. If we miss the SLA in a billing month, the next month is credited.
What is the response time when something breaks?
Same business day for standard issues. Under 1 hour acknowledgment for emergencies (checkout broken, store down, payment failures) and 24/7 emergency coverage during peak season. You get a senior engineer, not a junior with a script.
Do you do ecommerce hosting only, without maintenance?
No. The point of bundling hosting and maintenance is that one team owns uptime, security, performance, AND CRO. Splitting them is how brands end up with three vendors and zero accountability when checkout breaks during a launch.
What happens if we want to leave?
Three months minimum, then month-to-month with 30 days notice. We do a documented 30-day handoff: hosting credentials, code repo, app inventory, change log, and an architecture document so your next team or in-house dev does not start from zero. You own everything.
Three ways to start

Start with a hosting and maintenance audit, not a sales call.

Pick the path that fits where your brand is right now. The first conversation produces something useful, a written risk list and an itemized ecommerce maintenance plan, before either of us commits to anything bigger.
